Traveling by caravan or motorhome is freedom in its purest form. You always have your home with you, yet new views every day. Here we share experiences, tips and inspiration from our life on the road – with a focus on kid-friendly experiences, simplicity and joy in the little things. Want to see what our trips look like in practice? Check out our adventures around Sweden.
For us, caravan holidays are more than just a way to travel. It's a way to slow down, get closer to each other and experience something new every day. We love the feeling of having our little home with us everywhere: waking up to birdsong in the forest one day and falling asleep to the sound of waves the next. For us, the caravan has become a safe base for our adventures.
A dream we carry with us is to one day try motorhome life – with even more freedom, movement and maybe a longer trip from south to north… or why not through the whole of the Nordics?
Benefits of life on wheels
Having your home with you means not just comfort, but also security – especially when traveling with kids. You know where everything is, you don't have to check in and out, and you can create your own daily rhythm. At the same time, the whole of Sweden opens up to you – from small coves to mountain roads, from scenic rest stops to lively campsites with new friends. The pace becomes your own, and every rest stop can become a memory.
- You always have a safe place to sleep
- You don't have to pack up and unpack all the time
- You can cook your own food wherever you stop
- You can adjust the pace to the weather, the mood and the family's energy that day
- You get access to many scenic spots – both campsites and wild camping
Popular ways to travel
- Classic caravan camping – stable, affordable and with access to facilities
- Wild camping in nature – park by a lake, in the forest or near the sea (with respect for the rules!)
- Motorhome stopover spots in small towns and near attractions – cheap and easy for a night or two
- Motorhome trips with a mountain focus – combine with mountain hiking in Sweden
Packing & planning
Packing for a caravan trip doesn't have to be complicated – but it pays to think smart. Boxes and crates make it easy to organize both clothes and kitchen equipment. It's also good to think about balance: not just inside the caravan, but also between toys, clothes, outdoor comforts and practical items. Don't forget that things like a water filter, leveling blocks and spare fuses are often what save the day.
A caravan or motorhome adventure takes some planning – but no more than necessary:
- Pack in crates/boxes that are easy to move
- Secure all your packing while driving
- Choose multifunctional garments and items
- Don't forget leveling blocks, power cables and drinking water
- Bring a first aid kit, a mosquito net and a small toolbox

Food on the road
One of the coziest parts of caravan life is the meals. Maybe it's the simplicity – or that you so often eat with a view. We love cooking simple food that works both inside the caravan and out on the grill. Having a small snack kit on hand has saved many moments when the kids get hungry mid-drive. Different kinds of trip food are always perfect for trips out from the caravan.

Our favorites:
- Food that can be cooked in a skillet or pot
- Breakfast from a thermos or cold porridge in a jar
- Grill spots at campsites or rest areas
- A snack kit for the kids – fruit, nuts, bread, butter and raisins
Destinations we recommend
- Skrea Camping, Falkenberg – close to the sea, playground, shop and outdoor recreation area
- Trosa Havsbad & Camping – scenic seaside camping
- Rörvik, Småland – quiet, family-friendly camping with lake views
- Vildmarksvägen (the Wilderness Road), Jämtland/Västerbotten – combine with Stekenjokk – mountain fishing
- Norrland via the Inland Road – wild camp and experience Sweden for real
- West Sweden – combine camping with swimming, city life and forest
- Böda Sand Camping, Öland – one of Sweden's most popular campsites

Tips for families with kids
Finding the balance between adventure and rest is an art when traveling with kids in the caravan. Shorter driving stretches, play breaks and clear routines make a big difference.
- Choose campsites with a playground and a beach
- Pack outdoor toys, bikes or scooters
- Create routines even on the road
- Take it easy – the kids' pace is often the best one
Frequently asked questions about caravan life
- Can you wild camp with a motorhome? Yes, but follow the Right of Public Access and local rules.
- What does a campsite cost per night? About 250–600 SEK depending on season and location.
- Do you need electricity? No, but it makes things easier. Some use solar panels as an alternative.
