From Swedish mountains to the mighty peaks of the Alps.
After sharing our best experiences in The Ultimate Ski Trip Guide, it's time to travel further – into the very heart of each destination. Here you'll find our collected guides to Sweden's mountain world, Norway's wild mountains and the Alps' iconic valleys. Whether you're planning a short winter weekend or a longer trip with the whole family, we'll help you find the place where your ski memories begin.
🇸🇪 The Swedish mountains – where winter dreams are born
There's a special feeling in the Swedish mountains. The scent of a wood-fired sauna, snow crunching under ski boots, and a child's first run on a safe beginner slope.
Here you'll find Sälen, with its classic areas Lindvallen, Tandådalen, Hundfjället and Högfjället – a world where every family finds its own pace.
Stöten lures with spectacular views towards Norway, while Idre Fjäll combines mountain stillness with activities for all ages.
For those looking for something bigger, Åre awaits – Sweden's alpine metropolis, full of energy, restaurants and adventure for both beginners and experts.
And for those who love the smaller, more genuine destinations?
Hovfjället offers stillness, Isaberg closeness and simplicity, and Riksgränsen the magic of spring skiing under the midnight sun.
This is where the Swedish ski journey begins – and perhaps your passion for snow adventures too.
🇳🇴 Norway – where the mountains meet the fjords
Cross the border westward and you're met by something entirely different.
In Norway nature grows bigger, the snow deeper and the mountains more dramatic.
Hemsedal is one of our absolute favourites – a resort that manages to combine modern comfort with genuine mountain feeling. Here await both steep runs and quiet moments with views that take your breath away.
In Trysil everything is built for families and people who love life: wide pistes, well-planned lifts and a calm that makes everyday life disappear.
Hafjell and Geilo charm with their character and calm, while Stranda offers something altogether unique – skiing with views over fjords glittering in the winter light.
And for those chasing powder snow and untouched lines, Myrkdalen is a dream.
Norway isn't just about skiing – it's about experiencing real winter, in nature's own silence.
🇦🇹 Austria – the heart of the Alps
Nowhere does skiing feel as natural as it does in Austria. Here, charming alpine villages nestle between mighty peaks, and every day ends with a warm apple strudel and clinking glasses at the village Gasthaus.
In Bad Gastein, classic alpine culture meets modern skiing. From here you can also reach Sportgastein, where you ski on high-alpine ground with views over the Hohe Tauern National Park.
Close by await Matrei and Mölltaler Gletscher, where you travel by mountain train straight through the mountain into the world of glaciers – an experience in itself.
But Austria holds more legendary names: St. Anton, Lech, Zürs, Sölden, Ischgl, Kitzbühel and Zell am See.
Wherever you turn, you're met by the same hospitality, the same love of snow and the same feeling of being right at the heart of Europe's skiing soul.
🇮🇹 Italy – the sunniest side of the Alps
South of the Alpine chain, the light changes.
Here you'll find Champoluc Gressoney and Alagna, a favourite among our own trips – charming, genuine and with magnificent skiing in the Monte Rosa massif, perhaps the best off-piste skiing in the whole of Aosta Valley.
In Cervinia, on the other side of the Matterhorn, the days grow longer and the slopes gentler.
At Val Gardena and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Dolomites''s dramatic rock formations take centre stage, creating one of the world's most photographed winter landscapes.
Italy is the place where you ski for the pleasure of it, not the stress. Here espresso is served between runs and pasta just tastes better eaten in ski boots.
🇨🇭 Switzerland – elegance and eternal snow
In Switzerland, skiing is about perfection – but also about history and character.
In Zermatt the iconic Matterhorn towers above, the Toblerone mountain everyone recognises, and below waits a village where time seems to stand still.
Verbier offers perhaps the world's most legendary off-piste, while St. Moritz combines sport with glamour like no other place.
Davos and Klosters offer long, wide runs and genuine alpine atmosphere.
Switzerland is for those seeking something classic, timeless and unforgettable.
🇫🇷 France – the Alps' mightiest ski areas
Nowhere in the world is there as much connected skiing as in France.
Here awaits Chamonix, where Mont Blanc watches over the mountain ridges, and where adventurers from around the world gather to challenge themselves.
In Les Trois Vallées – with Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel – you can ski for days without repeating the same run.
And in Tignes and Val d'Isère, the skiing is as reliable as the sun over Alpe d'Huez.
France is the contrast to the small mountain villages: grand, high-alpine and full of energy – yet still with room for calm moments on a terrace overlooking all of Europe.
