High-alpine stillness, majestic peaks and endless panoramas.
Champoluc is located in Aosta Valley and is the heart of the vast Monterosa Ski – one of the Alps' largest and most spectacular ski systems. Here, three valleys are linked by lifts and high-alpine passes, creating a skiing experience that feels more like an expedition than an ordinary holiday. With views of peaks over 4,000 metres, wide high-alpine slopes and long runs, Champoluc is a destination for those seeking majestic mountains, sunny days and quieter alpine villages with genuine Italian charm.
This is one of Europe's most underrated ski resorts and a place where nature takes centre stage. The pace is relaxed, the terrain varied and the queues short. That makes Champoluc an ideal destination for experienced skiers, families and anyone who wants to enjoy the Alps at their most authentic.
The skiing – vast, scenic and high-alpine
Monterosa Ski is known for its high-alpine plateaus, long carving pistes and a network of lifts linking Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna. Here you'll find terrain ranging from wide slopes to technical runs, with open, glacier-like areas higher up in the system.
Highlights of Champoluc
- One of Italy's largest connected ski systems
- High-altitude slopes with open terrain and wide runs
- Fantastic views of the Monte Rosa massif
- Long runs suited to carving and high speed
- Very few lift queues
- A varied offering with good skiing for both beginners and advanced skiers
The peaks in the area reach over 3,200 metres, giving snow-sure conditions and stable quality throughout the season.
Off-piste – a hidden gem
For freeriders, Monterosa Ski is something of a hidden treasure. The terrain around Champoluc and Gressoney offers steep runs, glacier scenery and long lines that often hold good snow thanks to altitude and orientation.
The area around Punta Indren in particular is known for its off-piste opportunities. Here, though, experience and often a guide are essential – the terrain is vast and exposed.
Atmosphere and village feel
Champoluc is a calm, family-friendly and stylish alpine village. Here you'll find:
- traditional hotels
- cosy bars
- wine bars
- small restaurants with local food
- shops and cafés
The village is surrounded by spruce and pine forest and has a more relaxed feel than many other Italian ski destinations. It's a place for quality time, not partying.
Accommodation – small-scale and charming
Accommodation in Champoluc mainly consists of:
- family-run hotels
- cosy guesthouses
- smaller luxury hotels
- apartments close to the lift
Most options are close to the main lift, making logistics simple and convenient.
Activities off the slopes
Champoluc offers a number of activities for those who want to see more than just the slopes:
- cross-country trails in the Ayas Valley
- winter hiking in scenic forest areas
- spa and wellness
- visits to the nearby valleys of Gressoney and Alagna
- a regional food experience closely tied to the Aosta Valley
It's an area suited to both relaxation and activity.
