Tignes is one of the Alps' most snow-sure and versatile ski resorts. Together with neighbouring Val d'Isère, it forms the legendary Espace Killy ski system – one of Europe's largest, most varied and most sporty alpine areas. Here you're met by open high-mountain landscapes, glaciers, wide carving runs and technical terrain that make Tignes a favourite among advanced skiers.

This is a modern, high-altitude destination where skiing always takes centre stage. With its high altitude, big vertical drop and several villages, Tignes is a ski resort that offers a sporty atmosphere, efficient lift logistics and fantastic snow quality from early season well into spring.

The skiing – glaciers, high alpine terrain and huge variety

Tignes offers some of the most varied high-alpine environments in all of France. Skiing takes place largely above the treeline, giving sweeping views, open slopes and perfect carving conditions.

    Highlights in Tignes

    • Access to the whole of Espace Killy – over 300 km of pistes
    • The Grande Motte glacier – snow-sure and high alpine
    • Wide, sporty runs with a big vertical drop
    • Varied terrain for advanced skiers
    • A modern lift network and efficient transport between the areas
    • Perfect for both technical skiing and long days on the mountain

The terrain is made for speed, long turns and a constant flow – which has made Tignes popular with both freeriders and skilled piste skiers.

    Off-piste and freeriding

Tignes offers great off-piste opportunities, especially close to Val d'Isère and the glaciers. Here you'll find:

    • high-alpine bowls
    • technical off-piste lines
    • glacier terrain (with a guide)
    • long runs with stable snow

The area around the Grande Motte and the steeper sections near the Col du Palet are especially sought after by advanced skiers.

    Atmosphere and village feel

Tignes consists of several high-altitude villages that together create a modern ski environment:

    • Tignes Val Claret – lively, right beneath the glacier
    • Tignes Le Lac – a central hub overlooking the lake
    • Tignes Lavachet – quieter and more relaxed
    • Tignes 1800 & Les Brévières – more charming, traditional village settings

The atmosphere is sporty, energetic and international – Tignes is a resort where everything revolves around skiing.

Accommodation – high up and close to the slopes

Since Tignes sits high up and most accommodation is built for ski access, the area is highly practical:

    • ski-in/ski-out accommodation
    • modern apartments
    • hotels close to the lifts
    • family-friendly facilities
    • accommodation at various altitudes depending on setting and budget

This is one of the easiest-to-navigate high-alpine resorts in all of France.

    Activities off the slopes

Despite its sporty profile, Tignes offers plenty of activities:

    • an ice rink on the frozen lake
    • a swimming pool and wellness centre
    • ice diving (unique to the area)
    • snowmobile safaris
    • luge
    • winter hiking
    • bars and restaurants with a lively evening atmosphere

Tignes has a modern, active profile, making it easy to fill the evenings with experiences.

    Getting here

The nearest airport is Geneva. Transfers run by bus or rental car, and the roads are generally well ploughed. Because Tignes sits at high altitude, the final stretch up can be snowy in bad weather – something to keep in mind.

    Who Tignes is for

Tignes suits you if you're looking for:

    • sporty skiing with great variety
    • snow-sureness and high altitude
    • glacier skiing
    • modern lifts and efficient logistics
    • an international, active atmosphere
    • a base in one of Europe's most sporty ski systems

It's an ideal destination for couples, groups and advanced skiers – but thanks to its wide runs it's also excellent for intermediates and safe for families.
