From Isaberg's family weekends to Åre's alpine adventures.
Skiing in Sweden is something truly special. Here the journey isn't just about vertical metres and speed, but about the feeling of togetherness, winter light and sharing experiences in a landscape that's as beautiful as it is accessible. Swedish mountain resorts offer safety for families with children, challenges for experienced skiers, and genuine mountain magic for anyone longing to get away from everyday life.
Whether you're standing on skis for the first time or planning your next big winter trip, something is waiting for you among our Swedish ski guides.
Sälenfjällen – Sweden's heart of winter joy
Sälen is more than just a destination – it's a whole winter kingdom. Here four classic ski areas lie side by side: Lindvallen, Tandådalen, Hundfjället and Högfjället. Each part has its own character – from Lindvallen's family-friendly slopes and bathing area to Tandådalen's fast-paced pistes and Hundfjället's adventurous Trollskogen.
For many families, Sälen is the natural start of a lifelong love of skiing. And when the days end in a cabin with a crackling fire, you understand why generations return here, year after year.
Idre Fjäll & Stöten – where mountains meet freedom
A couple of hours north of Sälen await two of Sweden's most beloved mountain areas: Idre Fjäll and Stöten.
In Idre you're met with views over four mountain peaks, wide pistes and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to feel at home.
There's something here for everyone – from children's first ski school to experienced skiers seeking variety and snow security.
Stöten, further north towards the Norwegian border, is known for its modern lifts, high-alpine views and its slightly calmer pace.
It's a place where you can still feel nature's presence in every run, and where the sunsets over the mountains remind you why we love the Swedish winter.
Åre – Sweden's alpine capital
No other Swedish ski resort has the same pull as Åre.
Here international flair blends with genuine mountain culture – a community where skiing, restaurants, nightlife and adventure meet.
You can ski from the high mountain down to the valley, explore forest pistes, or take the cable car to Åreskutan to look out over Lake Storsjön.
Åre is as much an experience as a destination. By day it's full speed on the slopes, by night live music, and between runs await cafés, spas and culture. It's Sweden's answer to the Alps – and perhaps the country's most complete winter destination.
Smaller gems with big charm
Sweden is full of smaller ski resorts that offer grand experiences at a calmer pace.
In Hovfjället you get a close-knit feeling in a natural setting – with well-maintained pistes and proximity to Torsby.
Isaberg and Ulricehamn, in southern Sweden, are perfect for weekend or day trips and for beginners who want to try skiing without travelling far.
A clear example of how skiing can become accessible even for the youngest is our visit to Isaberg. There we followed Leo during his very first day of skiing – from the magic carpet on the children's slope to the chairlift and the red run – at a calm pace adapted for children.
For the adventurous, there's Riksgränsen and Hemavan/Tärnaby – classic names where spring skiing under the midnight sun has become a tradition.
Here it's all about freedom, mountain spirit and skiing in its most original form.
Tips for your Swedish ski trip
Planning a ski trip in Sweden is easy – but small details make a big difference.
Book accommodation early, especially during winter break and Easter.
Take the train to Åre or the car to Sälen, and pack for changing weather – the sun can shine in the morning and the snow can pour down in the afternoon.
Want to travel sustainably? Several Swedish mountain destinations offer EV charging, train stations close to the slopes and local produce on the menu. And don't forget the evenings – the quiet moments by the fire, the children's laughter on the sledding hill, and the feeling of time standing still as the snow falls silently outside the window.
